Dr. Max: Efficient Reporting with Power BI & Azure

Challenge
Dr. Max, one of the largest pharmacy chains in Central Europe and Eastern Europe, faced the challenge of reflecting its complex business logic within Power BI, a necessity arising from the specific nature of the company’s operations.
The first key issue was the preparation of a specially calculated indicator for a cross-selling report. This task became a kind of qualification test for the EBIS team and marked the starting point of further cooperation.
As the company continued to expand, the need for consistent and efficient reporting across its operations also became increasingly important.
Solution
To address these challenges, EBIS proposed and implemented a comprehensive solution based on Microsoft technologies.

In the first stage, the EBIS team reflected the complex business logic in Power BI, enabling the creation of reports tailored to Dr. Max’s requirements.

For cross-selling reports, a specially calculated indicator was developed, which became the foundation for further analyses and extensions of the reporting model.

As the project progressed, the need arose to accelerate data refresh times. Based on EBIS’s recommendation, the model was migrated to the Microsoft Azure environment, while maintaining integration with SharePoint for dataflow processes.
This change made it possible to introduce new transformations in both SQL and Power Query, significantly increasing the efficiency and flexibility of reporting.
Results
The implemented solution brought Dr. Max measurable business benefits:

Reduced data refresh times by migrating the model to the Microsoft Azure environment and applying transformations in SQL and Power Query.

Consistent and clear Power BI reports covering key business areas – sales, warehouse management, purchasing, and commission systems.

Standardized reporting through the use of metadata translation mechanisms and predefined visual themes.

Increased reporting flexibility, enabling the organization to expand into new analytical areas without concerns about technical or performance limitations.

Knowledge transfer – through workshops and ongoing meetings, Dr. Max employees gained additional skills that allow them to further develop reporting independently in the future.
